The South East Kent Branch of the Regimental Association was formed by Major 'Bertie Botwright' MBE in 2000. The 3rd Battalion Royal Regiment of Fusiliers was stationed in Folkestone in 1968; others have also served with the Infantry Junior Leaders Battalion when it was located at Sir John Moore Barracks, Shorncliffe.
The Royal Regiment of Fusiliers Association is also linked to the 1st Battalion Royal Fusiliers, as just about all of the present SE Kent Association members served with the Royal Fusiliers until 23rd April 1968 when the new Regiment was formed. Many Ex Fusiliers have settled in South East Kent and, with the patronage of the Regimental Headquarters located at Her Majesty's Tower of London the South East Kent Branch of the Association was formed. The Branch currently holds its meetings and social events at the Royal British Legion Club in Hythe. We are looking to continue to attract Fusiliers that live in the area to join us, and also those younger Soldiers who leave the Army and would wish to continue to have an Association with their Regiment.
The Fusilier Association exists to foster links between members of the Regiment - both those serving and those who have left the army.
Yes, there are branches attended mainly by old soldiers from our former regiments, but there are also branches whose members are predominantly from The Royal Regiment of Fusiliers (RRF). Few serving Fusiliers have time to visit their local branches but all Fusiliers, past and present, are automatically members of the Association.
